OWN THE RUN

Privacy Policy

Own The Run. Effective October 18, 2026. Contact hello@owntherun.app.

Who we are

Own The Run is operated by Christopher Davis. This policy describes what the iOS app collects, why, and what you can do about it.

What this app is

Own The Run is a GPS running app. You can record runs on your iPhone, keep them private on the device, and optionally sign in to share runs, follow people, join clubs, message, and compete. We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not use your runs for third-party advertising.

Account

If you create an account we collect the email and password you type (the password is stored by our auth provider, not in a form we can read). You may add a display name, handle, and bio. Email is used to sign you in and to contact you about the account. It is not shown on your public profile.

Location

When you start a run, the app uses GPS for that outing, including with the screen locked. We ask for While Using, not Always. We do not use GPS when you are not recording. We use the track to draw the route and compute distance, pace, elevation, and related stats. Runs stay on this iPhone until you share one. A shared run stores a simplified route and stats on our cloud so the pack, a club, or a public page can show it. We do not use location to advertise to you. You can turn location off in iOS Settings; new runs cannot record without it.

Fitness and run data

On this iPhone we store distance, moving and elapsed time, pace, splits, elevation when the phone provides it, course attempts, goals, and similar workout details. If you share a run or submit it to a board, the matching stats and route go to our cloud and can be visible to people you chose (public pack, club, or a specific post). Private history is not uploaded just because you signed in.

Photos, camera, videos, and share cards

Camera and photo library are used only when you pick a still or a video from Photos, or take a still for a share card, profile, or club picture. We do not record video inside the app. Saving a card to Photos stays on your device unless you also post it. If you post a photo or a short clip, that file is uploaded so others can see it on the timeline. We do not scan your library in the background.

Messages, clubs, and posts

Captions, comments, club posts, follows, and direct messages are stored so the other person can read them. Do not send information you do not want stored. You can report content in the app. We may remove content that breaks these terms.

What stays only on this iPhone

Unshared GPS tracks, local history, coach voice choice, map line colors, widget week stats, and lock-screen Live Activity state stay on the device (and in the App Group used by the widget). Deleting the app removes that local copy. Signing out does not wipe local history.

Companies that help us run the app

We use Supabase to host accounts, the database, and photos you upload. We use Mapbox to draw maps; Mapbox may receive map requests that include an approximate location of the map view. Apple provides TestFlight, the App Store, and iOS services (notifications and Live Activities on device). If you share a card to Instagram or another app, that app’s rules apply to what you send them.

Tracking and analytics

We do not use App Tracking Transparency because we do not track you across other companies’ apps for advertising. We do not run a third-party analytics or crash SDK in this version. We may see basic server logs (for example that an account signed in) to keep the service up.

Children

Own The Run is not directed at children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13. If we learn we collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Email hello@owntherun.app.

How long we keep data

Local runs stay until you delete them or the app. Cloud account data stays until you delete the account or we close the service. Shared posts and messages may remain visible to the other party until you delete the account (which removes your profile, shared runs, and posts). Backups can linger for a short time after that.

Your choices

You can keep every run private. You can unshare a run. You can sign out. In Profile you can delete your account, which removes the cloud account and related posts. You can also email us to ask what we store or to ask for deletion if something failed in the app. Location, camera, and photos are controlled in iOS Settings.

Security

We use HTTPS and row-level rules so one signed-in user cannot read another user’s private account fields. No method is perfect. Do not reuse a password you use on other sites.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and post the new text in the app. Continued use after that date means you accept the update. The current version is dated October 18, 2026.
